Dish Gardens

Dish Gardens are like miniature interior landscapes, a shallow dish filled with a variety of plants.
They can also be called European Gardens. A European garden usually has a flowering plant included
like kalanchoe or African Violets. Dish Gardens usually do not have drainage holes and are not
permanent as the plants will outgrow the container in a year or so. The plants can then be repotted
and a new dish garden can be created in the dish.
Dish Gardens are a very nice gift that will remind them of you. Think of them for birthdays, new
baby, new home or just because. We carry a nice selection of pre-made dish gardens in many different
sizes and varieties. Or you can create your own. Generally 3” or 4” plants work best in a dish garden.
Choose plants that have the same light, water and soil requirements. A layer of gravel should be
placed in the bottom of the dish for drainage. Use potting soil mixed with sand, peat moss or
vermiculite in a 50/50 mix.
Don’t rule out cactus! They make a nice dish garden with a southwestern flare!
