Fall

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower ~ Albert Camus

When the children head back to school and days turn cool and crisp it’s a great time to decorate for fall. Bring the colors of autumn into your home using pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn and more. For some of us at Dan Schantz Greenhouse this is our favorite time of year as the mums, pumpkins and gourds arrive filling up the greenhouses with the colors of fall.

We grow our own mums, pumpkins and gourds right here in the Lehigh Valley. Whatever size pumpkin you need, we’ve got it plus a huge selection of gourds in all colors and shapes. You might be surprised at some of the unusual shapes and colors of the gourds. Chrysanthemums are the traditional fall flower. Our hardy mums are available in different sizes to add a splash of color on the table or by the front door.

Decorating for fall does not have to be a big undertaking. You can simply put a couple of pumpkins on either side of your door and you’re done. Or fill a basket with small pumpkins and gourds a couple of fall leaves and you have a Thanksgiving centerpiece. You can also get a little more involved and do a fall scene with a hay

bale, scarecrow, corn stalk, mums, pumpkins and gourds in your front yard. To make your fall decorating a breeze stop by Dan Schantz Greenhouse in Allentown & Bethlehem for everything you need. We have a big display of scarecrows, wreaths, hay bales, pumpkins, gourds, corn shocks and of course mums.

Fall is the time to plant your spring flowering bulbs. We offer the finest bulbs from the Netherlands for the best results in your garden. Stop by and see our excellent selection.

And finally, fall is the time to prepare your beds for winter. Applying mulch in late fall after the ground has frozen but before the coldest temperatures arrive helps moderate winter temperatures. Use loose materials for mulch such as straw, hay or pine boughs. These will help insulate without compacting down under the snow and ice. Visit our mulch page to find out more.
