Our History

In 1957, Dan and Mildred Schantz purchased a farm in Lehigh County, ten miles south of Allentown,
Pennsylvania. At that time, our main crops were fruits and vegetables, which were retailed at local
farmer's markets and a road stand.
As the road stand business expanded, the farm operation grew and branched into the greenhouse
production of bedding plants. Our 22' by 100' greenhouse was built in 1961. Over 40 years later, our
greenhouse range covers over 20 acres. We operate ultra modern greenhouses with Argus computerized
controlled environmental system, floor flooded watering and our own bulb coolers with a capability
of holding over 4 million bulbs. For the Fall season we grow over 900 acres of Fall ornamentals.
Today operating a tight year-round schedule, we grow Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day Flowers,
Bedding plants, Vegetable Plants, Perennials, Herbs, Blooming Specialty Plants, Garden Mums,
Poinsettias and Flowering & Foliage Hanging Baskets. With retailing as the foundation of our business,
quality and customer satisfaction has always been our #1 objective.

We grow the BEST bulbs. Staring with large size bulbs shipped direct from Holland, planted into our
own special soil mix for bulbs, then cooled in our bulb coolers until greenhouse-ready. We have over
forty years experience in selecting, growing and forcing holiday bulbs.

Dan Schantz was selected Master Farmer of Pennsylvania in 1987, a lifetime achievement award.
He has served as president of the Marketing & Research Board for Pennsylvania Agriculture. As a leader
in Pennsylvania Horticulture, he takes great pride in striving for the highest quality crops.
