Holiday

Every holiday has its special flowers and at Dan Schantz Greenhouse we grow for all the holidays. There is a lot of planning that goes into planting the right flowers at the right time. For example, while you are still planting your annuals and perennials in June, we are planting Poinsettias so they are ready for Christmas.

We start off in January with flowers to brighten up the cold winter months. The potted flowers that are available in January including cyclamen, Pocketbook Flower (calceolaria,) Ranunculus and more. For Valentine’s Day we have the potted flowers listed above plus the spring bulbs start to arrive. You’ll find tulips, mini daffodils (Tete a Tete), and crocus. In March everyone’s a little bit Irish on St Patrick’s Day so we grow pots of shamrocks, Oxalis - a larger leafed shamrock - and of course our Leprechaun Mums - a big white football mum dressed like a leprechaun to bring you luck!

Then its Easter and the flowers are really growing! Come see our beautiful display of lilies, tulips, mini daffodils and standard daffodils, hyacinths, floral mums, and so much more. Plus we grow spring bulb gardens and window boxes full of bulbs that will brighten any table or desk. And remember, you can plant those bulbs in your garden to enjoy next year.

When May rolls around its time to start thinking of mom for Mother’s Day and planning your spring gardens. We grow beautiful hanging baskets, patio planters, window boxes that are great gifts for mom or for you. Plus we have all the annuals and perennials you’ll need to make your garden a beautiful expression of your creativity. Then in fall the mums and pumpkins arrive to add an autumn accent to your home. We grow over a million mums a year plus we have pumpkins, gourds, squash and white pumpkins all grown in the Lehigh Valley. You can decorate in October and use the same gourds and pumpkins for your Thanksgiving table. A big basket of gourds and pumpkins with a few fall leaves thrown in makes a colorful fall centerpiece.

And then its Poinsettia time! We pride ourselves on all the beautiful and different varieties of poinsettias we grow. When you grow over a million poinsettias a year, like we do at Dan Schantz Greenhouses, you know we know what we are doing. We grow them in all sizes and colors. And don’t miss our painted poinsettias in blue, lavender, orange and more. We even have some with glitter to add that extra special sparkle for the holidays. It’s worth a walk through our greenhouses in Allentown or Bethlehem to see all the beautiful Poinsettias. It will really put you in the holiday spirit! We are busy every month of the year because something’s always growing at our greenhouses in Zionsville. We love what we do and we hope it shows in the quality of our plants and flowers.
