Houseplants

Growing house plants is a wonderful hobby that adds beauty to your home and provides a healthy environment. They purify the air by filtering out toxins and pollutants. They release oxygen into the air and take in the carbon dioxide that we exhale. Studies show that the presence of plants in hospitals--or even having a view of plants or trees through the window--helps patients recover more quickly from illnesses and surgery.

Give plants what they need and they will do well. Knowing the specific requirements of your plant is very important. Light, water, humidity and soil all play a part in the health of your plant. Knowing where you will place the plant when purchasing them will make it easier to choose your plants.

Feed them a mild, organic fertilizer during the growing season. Transplant them every couple of years and pay attention to their water needs. It's better to err on the dry side. Over watering is the number one cause of death for plants. Provide good air circulation, dust them off occasionally, watch for pests, and give them plenty of light.
