Annuals that will tolerate Shade

Most garden plants need some sort of sunlight, whether it is just filtered, early or late afternoon.  Keep in mind that total shade will prevent your plants from growing properly, may have a tendency to stay too moist.  Be cautious not to overwater plants in these conditions.

Coleus

Coleus come in many colors. Since they are mainly grown for the foliage, discourage them from blooming by pinching off the flower stalks that form in summer. the blooms put unneeded stress on the plant. Feed often through the summer season. Avoid cold nights. Can be grown indoors as a houseplant for up to 3 years.
